- (continued from previous page)hear something like this:- Long years ago when Ireland was bitterly opposed by her enemies and freedom of religion was not allowed, one of the cruel laws was that the Irish could not bring their dead to the church on the night preceding the burial as is the custom nowadays, instead the people of Blackrock brought the remains to this "Cross of the Rock" and wept and prayed over them. Another interesting thing to be associated with this cross, is the fact that it was once used as a tidemark. Many centuries ago the tide actually came up to this old cross.Written by:-
