    give him shelter but seeing this "He" went to a flock of sheep. The sheep came round and gave him all the shelter they could. Up to this the sheep had only a coat of hair and to reward them for their kindness, Our Lord said that from that on they would grow a fleece of wool that would keep out the Winter's cold. The goats anyway got the worst bargain as they lost their warm coat of wool and grew a coat of hair which keeps out none of the cold. (The expression "He's as cold as a goat" may owe its origin to this tradition.)
