Ballinasloe. When the fair-day came it was so wet that nobody went to the fair but Connor himself. He did go and stood all day in the fairgreen with his two sheep. Of course he did not sell them. Ever afterwards when a very wet day would come, the old people would say in Irish
"Seo é lá Choncubhair agus a dhá chaora"
This was told to me by Mrs B. Lynch, 60 years Derrycahill, Dysart Co. Roscommon. She heard her parents and other old people used this expression
Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
