    Bonfires are lighted on the evening of 23rd June. There is usually one lighted in every village. The people of the place gather round the fire, The old people sit around while the young (people) persons dance. Long ago every-body used to carry home a burning sod of turf from the fire, "for luck".
    A cock is killed on St. Martin's Eve and its blood is sprinkled in the four corners of the house. There is always a young goose killed for St Michael's day or for the first Sunday after it.
