    weekly to the teacher to support him.
    The books they used were called spelling books and a book called "Voster".
    Writing was done with pens on small copybooks. Slates were also used.
    Each pupil secured a wooden seat for himself. There used to be a turf fire in the corner of the barn.
    This account of the above old school was brought by Mary Carroll of Cartronkelly, Dysart, Co. Roscommon. She got the information from her mother, to whom her grandfather told it.
