  1. Lisadurn near Elphin a great battle was faught with the fists in olden times and thus it was called Lisadurn which means the fight with the fists. At the Palace lands also near Elphin there is a field called Turnamada - there was a great battle faught here and there was so much killed that it was called Turnamada which mean the field of the dead.
    Mid-way between Strokestown and Elphin lies the Cregga hills. They are covered with whins and stones. On the top of those hills there is an old ancient Abbey or Caste. The remains of this Abbey or Castle are to be seen yet. There is also a great cave on those hills. People often thought to go into this cave, but when they went in a
