  1. As I lay down and sleep
I pray to God my soul to keep
And if I die before I wake
I pray to God my soul to take
There are four corners in my bed
And in these four corners four angels spread
St. Matthew St Mark St. Luke and St. John
God bless the bed that I lay on
And if any evil come to me
I pray to God to deliver me
One to guard me, one to guide me
And two to carry my soul to heaven
The Blessed Virgin standing by me
With a naked heart and a dismal cry.
Whosoever shall say this prayer three times each night will see the Blessed Virgin three times before their soul will be judged.
