  1. Caherhurley: This townland is supposed to have got its name from Caher - Irish Cathoir an ancient circular mortarless stone fort. The stone fort that gave name to Caherhurley was situated about a quarter of a mile from where the above named school now stands. There is still some vistige of this edifice left.
    There is another legend which tells how this townland got its name Caherhurley. There were some families of the name of Hurley living not far from where this stone fort was.
