  1. In olden times the people had only a few doctors. They had all their own cures. They used soap and sugar for curing sores on the hands or feet. They ground the sugar into fine grains and then mixed it through the soap. They used many herbs also. Dandelion was picked and boiled in water and then the juice was drank. It was supposed to be good for the heart and blood.
    March mallow was good for curing lumps and sores. The root, stem and leaves were left boiling near the fire for a long time. It would form a thick oily substance. Nettles were used for blistering the part where there would be pain, and if you got a sting from a nettle the juice of a dockleaf was rubbed on. They used to say also that if you got
