  1. Fairs in olden times were held once a month not in towns or cities but in a field near the town called a fair green.
    That time the farmers went very far to fairs even to Ennis.
    They left home some day before and walked day and night until they reached it.
    When going into a fair they had to pay toll to men appointed by the town commission and when they sold any beast they had to pay two pence to them.
    Cattle long ago were very cheap but farmers thought it a good price that time
