  1. Old Crafts
    There used to be candle-making in Aughavanagh long ago. The candles are made from rushes. The rushes were peeled first and dipped in melted grease. Then they were put in rush candle sticks and left to dry.
    In every house there used to be a spinning wheel and every one used to spin their own thread. It is about sixty years since the candle making in Aughavanagh
    An old woman used to make yarn for stockings and bring it to sell in Dublin. She lived in Ballygobbin.
