  1. The stone lay two inches below the surface. When raised, smaller stones were revealed and it was found that these were supported by other stones and resting on earth.
The supporting stones expanded in width towards the surface in such a way as to leave an irregularly shaped space in centre.

  2. The excavation was continued and after the removal of the upper stones a cist was uncovered, smaller than expected. It was composed of six thin flat stones slats. The lower ends were driven into the ground.
The men had to dig down deep in order to obtain a hole deep enough for cist.
