  1. On the old Dublin road, years ago there was a place at which a ghost could be seen. The carters in those days were very nervous of passing alone by the spot, so they usually went past it in groups.
    One night, a man had to leave Dublin by himself on urgent business, so he never minded till he came to the haunted place, and looking up suddenly he saw a soldier standing on the road. The car man bid the solider "Good Night", and the soldier replied and told him that he was the first man to speak to him so he would have his reward.
