    they engaged some men to go at night to the grave-yard, open the grave & coffin, take out the body & bring it in a sack to some appointed place to be examined to find out if possible the cause of death.
    These men were called "sack em ups" or body-snatchers. When this became known the relatives of the deceased watched by their graves for nine nights after which they could not be touched.
