    Then four were posted outside, and the other five within.
    With short delay their hellish work the fiends did begin,
    They heeded not the women's cry, but struck the ready match,
    And soon the blazes mounted high from rafter, beam and thatch.

    Then grimly smiled those bloodhounds, on each bearded face a grim [grin?]
    Little thinking of the revengeful foe that lay concealed within.
    For four of Co. Wexford boys when ended was their fray
    Sought shelter in the barn and were hid beneath some hay.

    Said the leader of the Wexfords as he peeped from out the door,
    There's five troopers in the yard without, within we have but four.
    And it's many a fray we fought them boys when numbered one to two,
    "And another blow for Ireland"! and the door they bursted through.
