- There are three forges in this parish. The names of the smiths are Patrick Kealy, Michael Boyce, and Patrick Dolan. Patrick Kealy's forge is situated in the townland of Drumming and along the roadside. Patrick Dolans forge is situated along the Ballymahon road and about a quarter of a mile from the Village of Carrickboy. Michael Boyces forge is situated at a cross roads in Ratharney. In a forge there are many irons of different kinds a bellows and an anvil. The forges have slated roofs on them. The door of the forge is of no special shape. There is but one fireplace within. The smith blows the fire with the bellows. The bellows are made locally. He uses a(continues on next page)
