- (continued from previous page)hoof and the nails can be seen embedded about half an inch in the rock.The first to find the new well was a blind woman from the county Armagh. She came tramping with a little girl leading her and she was inquiring everywhere for Kilvalley. When she found out where Kilvalley was she bathed her eyes at the well and her eyesight was restored. That was then said to be the true well. It was opened, and a wall about two feet high was built around it. People do not use the water from the well because it is said that the water would turn into blood. The water is only taken from the outlet.
In olden times there used to be pilgrimages to this well. The pilgrimage was held on every good Friday. At this pilgrimage the stations of the cross were made and the Litany of St. Patrick was recited.
