  1. The local people tell stories of Cromwell. It is said that he came to Ballinlough Castle, near Clonmellon, and sent one of his men to demand it off the owner whose name was OReilly. OReilly took a sword, hung the keys of the castle on it, and told the messenger that the person that would take them off the sword might take the castle.
