There is a tree in Blackrock near Miss McDermott's house and it is said Blessed Oliver Plunket hid in it, when trying to escape the English soldiers.St Columcille is also said to prophesy that when this tree would fall it would be the end of the world.
The local people refused to allow the electricians to cut the tree when putting up electric wires.
