  1. This is a typical West Clare bargain made over the sale of a heifer witnessed at Miltown fair June 18th 1938 by Moiceál O'Comraide between his father the seller a jobber and a neighbour. The letters S seller J Jobber and N neighbour indicate the parts played by each in making the deal. BSHuginnt. S.

    J. " What do you want for the little strawberry?
    S. " Nine pound."
    J. " Take five ."
    S. " Aidhe , have sense man."
    J. " Will you sell her will you."
    S. " I am'nt too struck for the want of the price of her , I'll let her run away for a little higher.
    J. "You dont want to sell her to me at all
    S. " I do, I'd sell her to you before any man in the fair ." ( a neighbour comes up)
    N. " Is there a much between ye "
    S. " He dont want to buy her from me at all.
    J. " No, but your mighty tough, here what are you laying her at ."
    S. " Didnt I tell you before , Nine pound .
    N. " Make him a bid let you ."
    J " Will you take seven quid, her'es the ticket.
    S " I dont want no ticket".
