  1. During the Black and Tan war in Ireland a lorry with about a half a dozen police left Miltown for Ennistymon about mid- in September 1,920. At a place called Dromin Hill about three miles from Miltown Malbay a party young Irish soldiers lay in ambush waiting for them.
    As the police car rounded the turn at the hill a volley of shots rang out and all the police were killed. The news spread quickly and very soon several cars with Black and Tans
