  1. There is a remarkable wooden cross to be seen on the roadside, in Upper Gurteen. This cross was erected about fifty-five years ago by the De La Poer family. The cross stands about ten feet in height. There are two long spears and a representation of Our Lord's Crown of Thorns hewn on the cross. There is also a representation of a sponge.
