  1. During the penal days there was a priest saying mass near the foot of Slievenamon. The English soldiers came on. He mounted his horse and galloped off. As he was coming down the hill the horse fell into a hole and the priest was killed. The hole into which the priest fell when he fell off his horse is this day called "Poll and t-sagairc".
