    Most of the local place names are so called because of some old ruin or church of historical orgin
    For instance
    Clombo means Cluain a Bhuad the meadow of victory so called from the battle that was fought here in 1174. When Roderick O'Connor was marching from Dublin to Thurles to meet the Normans he was attacked by an enemy at Castlefleming near Erril. In this battle the Irish won.
    Lisanure means lios an usidh the fort of the graves. The Irish that were slain in this battle were carried on stretchers and buried here Hence the name
