  1. In Cromwells time there was a thatched chapel in Kilcommon. Cromwell sent his soldiers to Smith of Derrinclare for a coal to burn the chapel and Smith refused. Cromwell's soldiers then went over to Smith of Maclone who gave the coal and Cromwells soldiers burned the Chapel. Then the Priest cursed the Smiths and he said that there would not be a member of these two families of Smith in the townland and there are none at present. The remains of the chapel are still to be seen.
