    1. This is an old rhyme about magpies:
    One for sorrow
    Two for joy
    Three for marriage
    Four for a boy.
    2. If your right ear is itchy it is the sign that someone is talking good about you.
    3. If your left ear is itchy it is a sign that someone is talking bad about you.
    4. If you see the new moon through the window you will be unlucky.
    5 . If you break a mirror you will have seven years bad luck.
    6. If you bite your nails it is a sign that you have a bad temper.
    7. If your left hand is itchy it is a sign that you will be getting money.
    8. If your right hand is itchy you will be getting a shake hand.
    9. If you spill a pinch of salt you should throw a pinch of it over your left shoulder.
    10. If you meet a red-haired woman the first thing in the morning it is said to be very unlucky.
    11. If a knife falls it is a sign that a gentlemen will come to the house during the day.
    12. If a fork falls it is a sign that a lady will visit the house during the day.
    13. It is said that if you walk under a ladder it is very unlucky.
    14. If the fire lights to one side it is a sign that some one is going or coming
