  1. Here are a few superstitions that still survive in this district.
    New moon - It is considered unlucky to see a new moon through glass. but on the other hand should it be seen over the left shoulder it is said that good luck is sure to follow.
    Magpie - It is unlucky to see one magpie in any season of the year, except spring. There is an old rhyme about magpies.
    "One for sorrow
    Two for joy
    Three for a wedding
    And four - to die"
    Blossoms - It is not right to bring whitethorn or apple blossom into the house.
    Cutlery - If a fork is let fall by accident it is a sign of a lady visitor, but on the other hand should a knife be let
