- In the year 1898 the mill in Askeaton was burned badly. Mr G Heuson the owned of the mill gave it to a man called Sheehy for a year. The mill earned a lot of money for him and the leased mill was a great success. Because of this Mr Sheehy requested that it should be given to him for another year but his request was not granted. On the night before the lease expired the mill was burned and many of the work-men escaped luckily.DrowningsOn the 30th October 1917 (the mill in ASkeaton was burned badly) a wild and stormy night two men set sail and before long they would have been outside only for an oar broke and they had to return and get another.
