    The Hallucinations Of A Watch.

    A man who had a watch to be repaired sent it to a watchmaker accompanied with the following lines.
    Dear Sir, herewith this day I send. My silver watch to you to mend. The ring is lost, I know not where. The hands won't go, so please repair.

    The messenger wrote the following.
    My dear mechanic, if you please,
    This watch deems wise to take its ease.
    Do not attack it or ill-treat.
    While both the hands refuse to beat.
    The Greenwich or the Irish time.
    Much less the hour of German clime.
    To which our rulers proudly cling.
    For why this watch has lost its ring.
