    wooden "skimmer" and it is then washed with spring water and is put into a timber "keeler". It was then packed in a firkin, into which about 100 lbs. of butter could be put. The local farmers joined. If a farmer were short of a firkin they would go to this neighbour for the remainder to fill the firkin and when he in turn was short he did the same. It was weighed by an "ouncel." The butter milk was drank when it was fresh but it was then given to the pigs.
