    The Mermaid
Mermaids are little creatures that live in the bottom of the sea. Not so very long ago a mermaid used to appear off the Black Rocks in Ballybunion, sitting on the rocks combing her hair. A visitor to the strand saw her and he thought to catch her, but he only caught her cap. She followed him to his house for the cap, but she did not succeed in getting it, so she stayed on in the house and got married to him. They lived for a long time very happily and had four children. One day he was clearing out a loft in the kitchen and he forgot about the cap and threw it down. Once his wife saw it she snapped it up, and ran away and he was left along with his children.
