  1. Long ago, the people of Cloyne had many customs on Shrove Tuesday.
    They always had pancakes for tea. All the young people of the house wanted a piece of the first pancake. This they put under their pillow that night. It was then said that the person they dreamt of that night would be their future husband or wife. This old custom is still kept up.
    Another custom which they had was to take people who were out after a certain hour to "sheilig" which was a sheep-pond up in Salleen. A number of men stole
