    This is the only such road which was ever made use of, afterwards as a public road.
    Long ago, rivers were crossed by means of fords. One still remains in Cummeen crossing the Shournact.

  2. There are many fairy forts in this district. There are two forts in Kilmartrin, one in Corlicka, one in Kilcullen, and two in Barracharing.
    There is one in Kilmartrin, directly opposite the one in Kilcullen, and the other one in Kilmartrin is opposite the one in Corlicka. It is said that a dog was once put into this one in Kilmartrin, and came out at the one in Corlicka. There is a stone with writing in one of the forts, and many people come to try to read it.
    They are all circular in shape and there are two fences of earth with a large space between them, around them. It is said that long ago this space was filled with water to prevent the enemy getting into the fort.
