  1. There was a forge in Lordan's field, west from Mike Hurley's before you go out on the main road from Gurranes road.
    Spittle forge was near Mikie Moloney's place. The owner of it had the land now held by Jack Connolly.
    One day a stranger on horseback came to the forge inquiring after a stray cow. While at the forge his horse cast a shoe. He asked the smith to put a shoe on the horse, but the smith had neither a shoe or iron to make one. "But" said he. "you won't leave my forge without a shoe." He put the tongs in the fire and drew a shoe out of it and shod the horse. The stranger inquired the charge and was told there would be no charge.
