    Their territory included 65 townlands and islands at the decline of the family. They lived in and around Baltimore, Collymore Collybeg, Old Court and practically all the country in and around Skibbereen.
    These were inaugurated according to old style and got the rod of power from McCarthy Reagh until time of Henry VIII. Fineen the then chieftain went to Dublin to do homage After the Desmond wars he ingratiated himself by entertaining the English Fleet at Dunashead but was pardoned by Carew. He was asked by Elizabeth (Queen) to go to England, he did so & the Queen died while he was there & there was "Uisge fé talamh" behind him.
    He leased Baltimore to Crooke (undertaker) for 21 years for £2000. Crooke planted a colony there and became the first M.P. Sir Walter Coppinger Cloughane arbitrated in a dispute between Fenian ODriscoll & his relative. One Henry Beecher & 2 others inquired into the case so Coppinger made a private contract & got a lease of Baltimore etc
