An old smith named Micil lived in Páirc na Ceárdchan during the famine. When he saw his daughter take a boiled potato out of pot he ran after her, so hungry was he, and followed her to the strand to take it away, 1/4 of a mile.- During the famine people were very badly off in this locality. They had stored the potatoes in the pits but when they went to take them out they were black. On the black potatoes tiny new ones had grown. Timothy Holland's father preserved those small potatoes 1847 for seed for next year. He had a grand crops from them 1848. People ate turnips either raw or(continues on next page)
