  1. One of the most famous people in Whiddy was Willie Cleary. He was from the townland of Kilmore. He joined the R.I.C. He won the all Ireland championship for weight throwing in the year 1900 and he is supposed to be living still.
    The last thing that was heard of him was ten years ago when he was around Belfast.
    When he was drunk one time in Dublin it took six men to arrest him.
    There lived in the townland of Garraha about thirty years ago a woman named Catherine Mahony who could dance a hornpipe with a jug of water on her head.
