    bonhambs. The house-leek was growing on the roof of every farm-house long ago. It was believed that it would prevent the house from burning and it is thought to bring luck on the farm-stock.
    The cat is called "puss". She kills rats and mice. The dog is called Shep. He guards the house at night. His fodder consists of bread, soup mixed with boiled potatoes, and grey-hounds are given "parata" to eat. When hatching-eggs are put down a mark is put on them with charcoal.
