  1. Newcomen owned eighteen hundred acres in Camla, Taghmaconnell, the same amount in Strokestown but he lived in Taghmaconnell. At one time he owned Tavanagh, also. He was a protestant gentleman, but he was exceedingly good to his tenants and servants. He helped to build the Taghmaconnell church and there is a stone slab on one of the walls
