    and brittle the potatoes will come up after a short time, it is not so with the ridges, the sods are thick and heavy and that prevents the shoots from coming up. It is the custom to have the potatoes sown in ridges for St Partick's day but the drills are not sown until April or May. The potatoes are earthed twice and sprayed three times during the summer : a long period of drought has great effect on potatoes. Kerr Pink is the variety of potatoes most produced in this locality; Epicures and Anner Banners are produced on a smaller scale.
