  1. The old people can still be heard talking and telling stories of the famine. It is said that the famine caused many deaths and much hardship in this district. The famine occurred in the year 1845 and it continued to the year 1849. The people in this district at that time were very poor and used sell all their grain crops to by other requirements and to pay their rents. They depended altogether on the potato crop for food. The blight struck the potato crop when it was in it's prime. The people had no cure for it and when they went to dig the potatoes
