    on wooden frames. The first thing they would do was to place the frame on four chairs on the floor and then they would spread a piece of cloth over the frame. Then they would get calico and tack the calico and the cloth around the frame with tacking thread. Then they would have a piece of chalk and cord and rub the chalk on the cord. They would tie the cord at one corner of the cloth and put the cord across the cloth. Then a line is marked along the cloth. Then they used to sow along the line and follow along until the whole cloth was lined across with rows of stitching. That is how the old women used to quilt long ago.
