- The only unusual animal which is known to have inhabited this district is the deer. The last of these, which lived in the Cullenagh mountains was shot about 3 years ago.
There is an old story told of a mad bull having been put into a wall belonging to a family named Gorman who lives at a place called Bernard's Grove around 6 miles from Ballyroan. A priest is supposed to have done this, and it is said that the bull will remain there until the wall passes from the hands of the Gormans to another owner.
