   Horses are on the grass all the Summer. In the Winter they get hay and oats, and mangols every night at bed time. They also get a bran mixture every week.
   The various calls for animals are; "Tuk for a hen. "Bail-up" for a cow. "Suck for a calf, "Chic" for a chicken. "Bee-Bee" for a turkey.

   There are six forges in the parish. The smiths are Mr. Murphy, Mr. Wall, Mr. Whelan, Mr. Keegan, Mr Brogan, and Mr. Lawlor. At one time there were twelve forges. The Murphy', Whelan's Keegan's and Walls have been smiths as far back as any one can remember. The forges are in Churchtown, Rheban, Barrowhouse, Geraldine and Athy.
