    several trip to India, Egypt, Malta, through the Red sea, to North America chiefly Quebec from there they used to bring timber. They buried the crew four times with black fever. He & the captain were the only Irish men. They had Sweedes Norwegians &[?] a few China men. He spent two days & two nights on a bale of cotton in mid Atlantic when their ship sank after a collision. He returned after the first three years & called on his mother who had by then given up hopes of ever again seeing him. He presented her with 350 sovereigns & went away again. He has a pension. This was told me by himself.
