    been an old established custom and the younger people are most anxious to follow in their Daddies's footsteps.
    With the exception of the "Siege of Ballyragget" 1775 turmoil of any kind has not disturbed the peacefulness of the village since that date. and generally the inhabitants have taken a quiet part in the Country's Movement's. However there is one thing that has put Ballyragget on the map of recent years - the North Kilkenny Coursing Meeting - which is held just outside the village. The meeting lasts two days and is patronised by prominent sportsmen in the South of Ireland. It is admitted that in few other places in the country are such stalwart hares to be found.
