The bread was mostly made from wheat There was also a lot of bread made from oats and also from potatoes. There is no account of querns being ever having been used in the district.
There were different kinds of bread made such as Potato-bread, oat-meal bread, and Boxty-bread. Potato-cake was very common in olden days and some is made at the present day. This is the way the potato-cake was made. There was about an equal quantity of potatoes and flour used and salt to taste.
