  1. (continued from previous page)
    The wild rose and the pimpernel,
    Bloom o'er the hermits ruined cell,
    And lowing kine unheeded roam,
    Where stood Saint Maeldoid's cloister home,
    How sad, that persecution dared,
    To wreck what Time might long have spared;
    To - day the rank grass gentle waves,
    O'er nameless tombs, and humble graves,
    Where side by side, in hallowed shade,
    The Abbot, Priest and Monk are laid,
    And oft the Pilgrim breathes a prayer,
    For all the dear departed there,
    Wishing in death and humble grave,
    Near those who sleep by Mucknoe's wave.
