    Some pick potatoes about the size of an egg and put them in whole. Others pick big potatoes and cut them in two or three but they must be careful to have an "eye" in each seed.
    This is a drawing of the local spade. Poor farmer who have only one horse join in pairs and help each other.
    When the potatoes are coming over the ground they are grubbed and moulded. Later on they are moulded again. When they are full grown they are sprayed to keep away the blight. Later on after the blosoms fall off they are sprayed again. When the stalks are withered they are dug out with a potato digger. Young boys pick the potatoes from the earth into baskets and carry them to the pits. Some potatoes are put in pits and others are stored in lofts. The potatoes are covered with fresh rushes and clay and put on the rushes.
