  1. Long ago the people had no indication of the weather except natural signs.
    It is said when the seagulls light on the land it is a sign of storm. It is said if a dog eats grass rain is at hand When a cat turns her back to the fire it is a sign of rain
    If the two ends of a rainbow are in the one townland someone is going to die
    If the rushing water is heard it is a sure of rain
    If a ring encircles the moon rain will follow
    When the water-hen builds her nest close to the water its a sign of dry summer
    When she builds her nest far from the water it's a sign of a wet summer
    If the curlews are heard shouting it's a sign of rain
    If the rooks and seagulls gather together and fly about it's a sign of rain or storm
    Midges bite when rain is coming
    Ducks shout when rain is near
    When the sun goes down red there is going
